Since 2023, Russian military courts have received 989 criminal cases of murder and intentional infliction of grievous harm resulting in death, calculated by «Mediazona»*.
In 2022, there were 38 cases, 266 in 2023, 346 in 2024. In 2025, 377 such criminal cases have already been submitted to the courts.
The number of violent crimes has been increasing throughout all 3.5 years since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The number of convictions noticeably increased for the first time in the first six months of 2023, when courts issued a record number of convictions against military personnel under articles for murder, grievous bodily harm, and violent sexual acts, 46 convictions, previously averaging 26 per half-year. Almost half (22) of the convictions were under articles on violent sexual acts, in previous half-years courts issued from 6 to 10 convictions under this article.
