Detained are opera singer and oppositionist Paata Burchuladze, member of the "National Movement" Irakli Nadiradze, former prosecutor Murtaz Zodelava, member of the "Strategy Aghmashenebeli" Paata Mandzhgaladze, and former deputy chief of the Georgian army general staff Colonel Lasha Beridze. They are accused of inciting violent change to the constitutional order.
As reported by Paper Kartuli, the investigation is proceeding under articles related to calls for violent change to the constitutional order or overthrow of state power, seizure or blockade of objects of special significance, organization of group violence, leadership or participation in it, and causing damage or destruction of someone else's property with significant harm.
The maximum penalty for these articles is up to 9 years of imprisonment.
It is reported that 70-year-old Paata Burchuladze was injured during the dispersal of a protest. Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Aleksandre Darakhvelidze stated that 14 police officers were injured, one of whom is in serious condition.
Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze made a statement. "Today we can identify many more people than, say, a couple of months ago. Many face a harsh fate in accordance with the law. The law will act very strictly," said Kobakhidze.
The day before, hundreds of demonstrators participated in a march to the parliament, then some of them decided to storm the president's residence. The police used water cannons.
