With the same unanimity, the Higher Qualification Collegium of Judges (HQCJ) recommended the candidacy of the Prosecutor General for the position of Chairman of the Supreme Court, noting that Krasnov «effectively leads the supervisory agency, distinguished by responsibility and diligence».
Igor Krasnov has worked in investigative bodies since the early 2000s, handling high-profile cases — the assassination attempt on Anatoly Chubais, the murders of politician Boris Nemtsov, lawyer Stanislav Markelov, and journalist Anastasia Baburova. Since April 2016, he became the deputy head of the Investigative Committee under Alexander Bastrykin. In January 2020, Vladimir Putin appointed Krasnov as Prosecutor General.
Under him, the agency expanded its supervisory powers, strengthened control over corruption, and initiated cases against opposition structures, including Alexei Navalny's FBK*.
In 2021, the Prosecutor General's Office under Krasnov's leadership achieved the liquidation of the human rights center «Memorial»***, and also restricted access to statistics on corruption crimes among officials and law enforcement officers.
In August 2025, Krasnov submitted documents for the post of Chairman of the Supreme Court, which became vacant after the death of Irina Podnosova, and became the sole candidate for the position.
The publication «Project»**** and FBK published investigations about a fictitious divorce, the business of Krasnov's wife, and real estate registered to relatives, including a two-year-old son.
The Federation Council also acknowledged the consultations on the candidacy of the presidential envoy in the Northwestern Federal District, Alexander Gutsan, for the position of Prosecutor General.
