Poland will shoot down any objects violating its airspace without discussions

2025.09.22

In "other cases" the military will make "cautious" decisions

Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated on Monday that Poland will decisively defend its skies if flying objects violate Polish airspace. "I want to state very clearly. We will make the decision to shoot down objects without any discussions if they violate our territory and fly over Poland. There is absolutely nothing to discuss here," Polskie Radio quotes him.

At the same time, he said that "in other cases," when objects are outside the country, the military will make "cautious decisions."

"If we are dealing with situations that are not entirely clear, for example, as was the case with the recent flight of Russian fighters over the Petrobaltic platform, one needs to think twice before making decisions about actions that could already trigger a very acute phase of conflict," the Prime Minister clarified.

Tusk also noted that Poland acts in constant coordination with allies and is ready for "any decision aimed at destroying all objects that may threaten us."

"But I must be one hundred percent sure that the allies will treat this the same way as we do, that in a situation when the conflict enters a very acute phase, we will not be alone in this," Tusk emphasized.

In the last month, Russian aviation has regularly violated the airspace of NATO countries. For instance, on the night of September 9 to 10, more than 20 drones entered Polish territory, and on September 19, three MiG-31 fighters entered Estonian airspace and stayed there for almost 12 minutes.
