Two Eurofighter jets of the German Air Force were scrambled in Rostock and detected a Russian reconnaissance aircraft Il-20M in international space over the Baltic, writes Bild. The aircraft was flying without a transponder device transmitting the route and characteristics of the aircraft.
As the publication notes, such unannounced flights of Russian Air Force are regularly recorded by NATO countries in this region. The Il-20M has already been intercepted — for example, on August 26 and in March of this year.
Meanwhile, Estonia, for the first time in 34 years of UN membership, requested an emergency Security Council meeting in connection with Russia's violation of the country's airspace. “The Security Council will meet tomorrow, September 22, to consider this violation of territorial integrity and violation of the prohibition on the threat or use of force,” says the message of the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on X.
