The Federation Council received a proposal from Vladimir Putin to appoint the presidential envoy in the Northwestern Federal District, Alexander Gutsan, to the position of Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, wrote Senator Andrey Klishas. He also added that the proposal to appoint the current Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov to the post of Chairman of the Supreme Court will also be considered. According to the senator, the upper house of parliament will discuss these issues at a meeting on September 24.
Gutsan has held the position of envoy in the Northwestern Federal District since 2018. Prior to that, from 2007 to 2018, he was the Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation under Yuri Chaika.
Gutsan is a graduate of the Faculty of Law of Leningrad State University, where he studied in the same class as the current Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev and Minister of Justice Konstantin Chuychenko.
