Donald Trump reported that peace talks are hindered by the hatred between Putin and Zelensky and Europe's indecision

However, he still believes that talks involving him will begin «relatively soon»

During a conversation with journalists on Sunday evening, US President Donald Trump, when asked about a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine, noted that for the meeting to take place, he «will have to intervene».

«There will be talks — whether you call it a summit or just a meeting, it doesn't matter. But I will probably have to intervene. They hate each other so much that they can hardly speak. They just can't talk to each other», — said Trump. He did not respond to a question about possible timing for such a meeting, only noting that it will happen «relatively soon».

He also once again explained that ending the war in Ukraine turned out to be more difficult than he expected due to the «incomprehensible hatred» between Putin and Zelensky.

«I want to stop this. And you know, I stopped seven wars. I thought that (Russia's war in Ukraine) would be easy for me, but it became a failure. The hatred between Zelensky and Putin is incomprehensible», — said Trump.

Another reason for the prolonged peace talks process, Trump cited as Europe's indecision, accusing it of insufficiently tough sanctions against Russia. «Look, Europe — they are my friends, but they are buying oil from Russia. So you can't expect us to be the only ones acting at full capacity. I don't want them to buy oil», — stated the US President, adding that his further steps on sanctions will depend on whether European countries strengthen their own restrictive measures.
