The US President acknowledged that Putin and Zelensky are «not ready» for a peace agreement yet, but «something must happen»

Despite growing uncertainty about the prospect of personal negotiations between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump has not abandoned the goal of achieving a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine.

In an interview with CBS News, Trump described his position as realistic and optimistic and said he is closely monitoring what both sides are doing to come to the negotiating table.

«I have been watching this, I have seen it, and I have talked about it with Putin and Zelensky. Something must happen, but they are not ready yet. But something must happen. We will do it», Trump said.

Earlier, the White House announced a phone call between the US President and Volodymyr Zelensky.

Trump stated that he will continue to pursue a peace agreement. «I think we will settle everything. Honestly, I thought the Russian war would be one of the easiest to stop, but it seems to be a bit more complicated than some others», the head of the White House admitted.

In addition to the war between Russia and Ukraine, in recent weeks Trump claimed credit for stopping six or seven wars: Israel and Iran, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Armenia and Azerbaijan, Thailand and Cambodia, India and Pakistan, Egypt and Ethiopia, as well as Serbia and Kosovo.
