Turkish Foreign Ministry: Russia no longer wants all four regions of Ukraine, only demanding Donbass

2025.08.29

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan considers this a «stunning basis» for a framework agreement

Russia no longer demands full control over the four regions of Ukraine, which have been partially occupied since the start of the full-scale invasion, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said in an interview with Haberler.

«Let me put it this way: previously, the Russians intended to capture all the administrative borders of the four regions. Now they have abandoned these demands, except for one place — Donbass», he said. According to the Turkish Foreign Minister, there is currently a preliminary discussion about Ukraine giving up the remaining 25-30% of the Donetsk region, and in Kherson and Zaporizhzhia, everything will stop at the line of contact.

«The fact that they themselves have declared this and agreed to guarantee it with a security mechanism actually offers a truly stunning basis in the form of articles of a framework agreement», Fidan stated.

Previously, the President of Ukraine repeatedly stated that the Constitution prohibits the transfer of the country's territories. Moreover, this will not lead to peace, but to the next Russian aggression, as the Donetsk region will be a convenient platform for a renewed attack on Ukraine. As happened with the annexed Crimea.
