The Canadian authorities, following the UK, expanded sanctions against Russia, including 77 individuals and 39 legal entities, as well as 201 vessels of the "shadow fleet" that transport Russian oil at prices above the established cap. The updated list is published on the country's government website.
The sanctions affected Vladimir Putin's wife Lyudmila and her new husband Artur Ocheretny, Putin's nephew Mikhail Shelomov, conductor Valery Gergiev, former head of "Rosnano" Anatoly Chubais, former Austrian Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl living in Russia, former director of "Nord Stream 2" Matthias Warnig, Boris Yeltsin's daughter Tatyana Yumasheva and her husband Valentin, billionaire Vladimir Yevtushenkov, head of InfoWatch Natalya Kaspersky and others.
The new sanctions list also includes Deputy Defense Minister Pavel Fradkov and businessman Artem Chaika.
Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand stated that this is the most significant package of sanctions against Russia since the start of the invasion of Ukraine. In addition, these are the largest sanctions related to the Russian "shadow fleet".
In addition, Canada has introduced new export and import bans, including restrictions on the supply of dual-use technologies, coal, and metals.
