The Supreme Court dissolved the party «Civic Initiative»

2025.06.17

Ksenia Sobchak and Boris Nadezhdin were nominated for president from it, as well as opposition deputies in municipal elections in various regions

The Supreme Court of the Russian Federation satisfied the claim of the Ministry of Justice and issued a decision to dissolve the political party «Civic Initiative», reported the initiative group of Ekaterina Duntsova*.

The Ministry of Justice justified its demands by stating that the party does not engage in activities and does not participate in elections. The agency referred to the requirement of Article 37 of the federal law «On Political Parties», according to which a party must nominate candidates and ensure their registration in presidential, parliamentary, gubernatorial, and local elections.

At the same time, in St. Petersburg, during the municipal elections last year, the party nominated 37 candidates, 10 of whom managed to get on the ballots, but they lost the elections.

On the eve, the party also announced that «Civic Initiative» would nominate candidates in 2025 elections in the Leningrad region, the Komi Republic, and the Kaliningrad, Novgorod, Pskov, and Arkhangelsk regions.

The party «Civic Initiative» was formed from the project «Committee of Civic Initiatives» by Alexei Kudrin, and it was headed by politician Andrey Nechaev. In 2024, the party nominated Boris Nadezhdin for the elections, who collected signatures but was not registered.
