The Baltic Fleet Military Court announced the sentencing of the defendant in the 'treason' case, who was given 14 years of imprisonment, one year of restricted freedom, and a fine of 300 thousand rubles. Taking into account the previous conviction, the final punishment will be 19 years of imprisonment, a fine of 400 thousand rubles, and one year of restricted freedom. The convict will spend the first three years in prison, and the remaining term in a high-security colony.
According to the Baltic Fleet Military Court's statement, the 'treason' case is related to the FSB's belief that the man was passing information to Ukrainian intelligence representatives that 'could be used against the security of the Russian Federation'.
The press release, which does not disclose the convict's name, was noted by 'Mediazona'*, which also found out that it is a resident of Kaliningrad, Igor Kursakov, who was found guilty in June 2024 of 'preparing for a terrorist act, illegal manufacturing and storage of explosives and explosive devices'. According to law enforcement, Kursakov, 'on the orders of a coordinator from 'Azov'**, planned a 'sabotage-terrorist attack' on Baltic Fleet facilities and at Khrabrovo airport.
The press release about the Kaliningrad resident's arrest stated that FSB officers found a '5 kg TNT equivalent explosive device' and 'components for making an IED' in his cache, and on the man's phone, there was correspondence with a 'handler' from 'Azov', 'extremist symbols', and 'propaganda literature'.
As noted by 'Mediazona', one of the rulings denying the release of the Kaliningrad resident from the detention center stated that the accused is cooperating with the investigation and has repented for his actions. The document also mentioned Kursakov's 'pacifist life stance' and his desire to leave Russia at the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
