More than 10% of them were born and died under Putin

According to the local publication «Ashes», 739 soldiers from the Kursk region died in the war in Ukraine, and 16 went missing (most likely, all of them are also dead). For comparison, during the 10-year war in Afghanistan, 105 residents of the Kursk region died. During the first and second Chechen wars, which lasted a total of 12 years, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense, at least 148 soldiers from the Kursk region died.

Journalists relied on information from social networks, reports from district administrations, and military enlistment offices. The actual loss figures may be significantly higher. The average age of Kursk residents who died in Ukraine is 35 years, the youngest deceased, Nikita Kotov from Kursk, was 18 years, 1 month, and 23 days old, and the oldest, Gennady Shabashev from the Konyshevsky district, was 67 years old.

Of the 699 people whose age is precisely known, 79 were born and died under Putin (counting from August 9, 1999, the date of his appointment as Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation).

At the end of April, the head of the region, Alexander Khinshtein, stated that during the ten months of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' offensive in the Kursk region, 288 local residents died, another 503 people were injured, 430 of them were hospitalized. Earlier, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that 1,905 people went missing in the region over the year, 1,762 of them after the start of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' offensive.
