The court in Mogocha suspended the case against Sanan Guseynov, accused of murdering his ex-wife, as the man has still not been found after fleeing the military unit, writes «People of Baikal».
According to the investigation, in the fall of 2024, Guseynov ambushed his ex-wife near her home and shot her at least 12 times with a modified traumatic pistol. The woman died on the spot, leaving behind a young daughter. Despite this, Guseynov stated that he did not regret his actions. Nevertheless, he fell into the category of those who could go to war instead of imprisonment.
At the beginning of 2025, the case was brought to court, but it later emerged that Guseynov had signed a contract with the Ministry of Defense and went to war. The proceedings were suspended. Then the residents of Mogocha created a petition demanding that he be held accountable, signed by more than 4,800 people — more than a third of the city's population.
At the end of February, it became known that Guseynov had deserted. After this, the criminal case against him was resumed, and an article on unauthorized abandonment of the unit was added. The investigation is currently suspended again because they cannot find Guseynov.
According to «Sever. Realities»*, last year 168 cases were initiated against military personnel who had deserted, under articles for various other crimes: these include murders, intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm, sexualized crimes, thefts, robberies, fraud, drug offenses, drunk driving, traffic violations, and even hostage-taking.
