Smartphones, computers, and chips are exempt from the new import tariffs to the US, reported Bloomberg and CNBC. An exception for these product groups was made despite the overall tightening of tariffs on Chinese products. According to new guidelines from the US Customs and Border Protection, smartphones and computers will be exempt from reciprocal tariffs.
These guidelines appeared after Trump imposed a 145% tariff on products from China, which could have affected technology companies like Apple, which manufacture most of their products in China. Experts predicted that the cost of the iPhone could increase by 30-40%.
Earlier, White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt stated that President Donald Trump believes that Apple products could be manufactured in the US.
