The first to report on the prosecutor's visit to the bookstore was "Mash on Moyka", stating that the reason was a complaint about books with LGBT** propaganda. The founder of "Podpisnye Izdaniya", Mikhail Ivanov, confirmed to "Rotonda" that inspectors visited the store, specifying that the store received a notification that some of the books currently on sale might contain prohibited topics.
Store employees told "Rotonda" that they were given a list of 48 books that need to be removed from the shelves after inspection. The list included six books on feminism, among them "On Women" by philosopher Susan Sontag, and a collection of essays "7 Texts on Feminism. Disarming Gender" with activist Daria Serenko* among the authors.
The prosecutor's office also demanded the removal of works by journalists Valery Panyushkin and Sergey Parkhomenko, and the novel "Doctor Garin" by writer Vladimir Sorokin.
The books were seized by the prosecutor's office "for inspection".
