China responded to the report that Ukraine captured citizens of the country on the front who fought on the side of Russia. According to Sky News, the Chinese Foreign Ministry stated that it is currently "checking the situation" with Ukraine and emphasizes calls for its citizens to stay away from conflict zones and not to participate in them.
On April 8, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukrainian military replenished the exchange fund by capturing two Chinese soldiers in the Donetsk region who fought on the side of Russia. He added that there are documents proving that they are Chinese citizens, and possibly there are "significantly more than two" such Chinese citizens in the Russian army units.
"Russia's involvement of China, directly or indirectly, in this war in Europe is a clear signal that Putin intends to do anything but end the war. He is looking for ways to continue fighting. This definitely requires a response. A response from the United States, Europe, and everyone in the world who wants peace," Zelensky wrote.
