The St. Petersburg City Court sentenced 26-year-old Ukrainian Vladislav Sugakov to 10 years in a high-security colony on charges of «espionage», reported the United Press Service of the city courts.
He was found guilty of gathering information that could be used «against the security» of Russia, and passing it to a person «acting in the interests of foreign intelligence». The trial was held in closed session due to the classified nature of the case.
It was previously reported that «in April-May 2022, Sugakov, acting on a spy mission received from foreign intelligence, gathered information about the location of Russian Armed Forces units on the territory of one of the regions of Ukraine and passed this information to a representative of the SBU».
As «Mediazona»* writes, according to information in leaked databases, Sugakov — a native of the Kharkiv region. In a Telegram channel publishing information about captured Ukrainians, he is referred to as a civilian who ended up in captivity in October 2022. However, he was only arrested by the Petrogradsky District Court of St. Petersburg in February of last year.
According to «Bumaga»*, Sugakov was brought to the hearing with a broken wrist, and the lawyer stated that he «fell in the detention center». Sugakov is held in Detention Center-6 in Gorelovo — this penitentiary is considered the most problematic in the Leningrad region and St. Petersburg, with inmates regularly complaining about threats and beatings.
* Recognized as «foreign agents» in Russia.
