FSB officers and the Center for Countering Extremism of the Ministry of Internal Affairs detained a 49-year-old resident of the Belgorod region, suspected of "preparing a terrorist attack" in the city of Valuyki and poisoning Russian military personnel, reported RIA "Novosti" citing the press service of the regional FSB.
The agency claims that the man was in contact with a "terrorist organization banned in Russia" and "on the orders of curators" collected and transmitted information about the location and movements of Russian military personnel in the border zone to strike them. He also planned to carry out a terrorist attack in the city of Valuyki and sabotage "by poisoning Russian military personnel." What kind of terrorist attack the detainee was planning in Valuyki and how he planned to poison the military was not specified by the FSB, but they noted that he was caught "red-handed."
A criminal case was initiated against the man for "state treason," an attempt to "participate in the activities of a terrorist organization," "preparation for sabotage and a terrorist attack," as well as "illegal possession of explosives." He faces a life sentence.
