Kyiv received 752 million pounds, the money will be used to strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities

Ukraine received the first payment of funds from the United Kingdom, which it provides as part of the G7 loan using income from frozen Russian assets.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stated on the social network X that Ukraine received the first funds from the United Kingdom as part of the G7 loan, secured by income from frozen Russian assets — 752 million pounds sterling.

«We will direct the funds to strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities. I thank Keir Starmer, the UK government, and our partners from the G7 for the mechanism that makes Russian funds work for Ukraine. We expect that all sovereign assets of the Russian Federation will be confiscated in the future and transferred for the benefit of our state», — noted the Prime Minister.

In 2024, the G7 agreed to jointly provide Ukraine with a loan of 50 billion dollars using Russian assets: the funds will be formally provided as a loan but will be repaid using income from frozen Russian assets.

At the end of December 2024, Ukraine received the first tranche from the USA out of the planned 20 billion dollars American contribution, and in January 2025 — the first 3 billion euros from the EU.
